Sunderland boss O'Neill does not regret missing England job

New Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill has no regrets rejecting the England job.

The Northern Irishman was pipped for the England job by Steve McClaren in 2006 and would have been a candidate to succeed Fabio Capello next summer.

But the 59-year-old claims that he's fulfilled a dream by managing the club he supported as a boy.

"I don't think you can hang around for jobs," he said. "When this one came along, I wanted to grasp it and I've not had one genuine thought on anything else.

"I would think if Mr Capello was to leave, Harry Redknapp would be an absolute certainty, the way he is performing at Tottenham.

"I am very happy to be manager of Sunderland."
