Sunderland boss O'Neill convinced passion for FA Cup is back

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill feels the FA Cup is back after their passionate draw at Everton.

Everton must now go to Sunderland for a replay after Saturday's 1-1 draw.

O'Neill, who has lost just one of 14 Goodison visits as player and boss, insisted: "With the advent of the Premier League, then the Champions League becoming so massive, the FA Cup took a back seat for a while.

"Then there was the time Manchester United didn't defend it - or were forced to go elsewhere. It had definitely lost a bit of its sheen but I think it's fighting back, like the League Cup.

"Just look at some of the teams in the semi-finals and Liverpool have just won that competition.

"The League Cup had a lift so why shouldn't the FA Cup, which is a wonderful competition."
