Sunderland's £12m record signing is on a season-long loan deal with United Arab Emirates side Al-Ain, and there is a big question mark hanging over his future on Wearside.
"But there was another club out there in the United Arab Emirates looking at his services.
"I know I said some weeks ago that I'd be hoping to speak to him.
"But one day has run into the next and I haven't had a chance."O'Neill said: "I don't think the position has changed that much.
