Sunderland boss O'Neill praises old club Celtic, manager Lennon

Martin O'Neill has heaped praise on Neil Lennon for the job he has done with Celtic this season.

The Sunderland manager, who led the Hoops to three Scottish titles during his stay at Parkhead, feels Lennon has performed brilliantly as boss of the Glasgow giants who secured the title with a big 6-0 win over Kilmarnock on the weekend.

"Given the backdrop that Neil has faced, it is a fantastic achievement to have guided the club to this victory. Winning the championship was Neil's objective this season and he has overcome all the problems," said O'Neill, who purchased ex-midfielder Lennon from Leicester City in late 2000 when at the helm at Celtic.

"Now he has a championship success as a manager to go with his five titles he won as a player with Celtic.

"Having won the Scottish Cup last year and followed it with the title, is a great start in management for him."
