David Moyes has been charged by the Football Association with misconduct.
The Sunderland manager was sent from the touchline during Tuesday night's EFL Cup loss to Southampton after protesting referee Chris Kavanagh's decision not to award his side a penalty.
Moyes has been accused of using 'abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official' and must now prove his innocence or he will face a touchline ban.
The Scotsman has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to the charge.
