Sunderland boss Keane won't take sides in Reid Ireland row

Sunderland boss Roy Keane says Andy Reid should knuckle down and fight to win back his place in the Republic of Ireland team.

Keane said: "If you spoke to any of my players and they were happy to sit on the bench, I'd be disappointed. Players want to play, but the manager has called it like he sees it. There's nothing wrong with players getting frustrated - I used to do it everyday - it's just a question of how you channel that.

"You don't have agree with him, but they're getting results. You will have to ask Mr Trapattoni but I play certain players in certain positions, and it is nobody's business other than the manager's.

"Reidy was on the bench on Wednesday and I'm sure that if he was called upon he would have done a good job. I've got no issues whatsoever with it. I expect Andy to get his head down here and keep pushing for a place in the side. What else can he do?

"There's no problem with Reidy. The manager over there can pick the team he wants. Liam, Daryl and Stokesy didn't get in, but no one seems to be talking about them. I think they're making a big deal about Reidy because things are going well for Ireland and Trapattoni, so people aren't happy and they're going to look for an angle. The media are trying to create something that's not quite there.

"There's no need to complicate it. If Andy keeps doing well for Sunderland and keeps on getting selected for the squads, hopefully he'll get his chance. But the manager's picking the team over there and they've had a decent start."
