Sunderland boss Roy Keane insists he would have no qualms about paying top wages to land the best players.
However, he is adamant he will not be held to ransom as he attempts to strengthen his squad.
But while he admits he has been priced out of the market with some of his targets, Keane would have no problem paying big wages to the kind of players who command them.
He said: "If I was to sign (Cristiano) Ronaldo tomorrow on £150,000 a week, I don't think our players would be upset.
"It's none of their business - and the reason he would be getting that is because he's probably the best player in the world.
"I look at my own experiences. Somebody else's contract or wages is nobody else's business.
"If the lad next to me was getting twice as much as me I would say good luck to him, maybe he's got a better agent than me.
"Luckily I did have a good agent. It's nobody's business what others are on.
"If we can bring in a player tomorrow and it doubles what the top player is on, then I would give it to him.
"It's no-one else's business. But a lot of players exaggerate what they are earning to impress others."
