Sunderland boss Roy Keane insists there's no hard feelings over David Nugent's decision to join Portsmouth yesterday.
"The important thing was the fact we had done everything we could to make it happen. We had done our job to the best of our ability, it was not meant to be.
"I spoke to David and I actually enjoyed his company.
"Yet there just comes a point where my job as manager of Sunderland is to do the best I can for the club. We therefore had to walk away from that deal.
"I wish him well and I am sure he is going to have a very good career anyway, but I have to do what is right for Sunderland."
