Sunderland boss Keane challenges his best Academy kids

Sunderland boss Roy Keane says there's some great talent in the club's academy system, but getting to the next level will depend on what's "between their ears".

"There are some very good young players coming through at Sunderland, but just because they are good at 15 or 16 doesn't mean they will go on to the next level," said Keane, who clearly cannot understand anyone who does not make the most of what they have to offer as a player. "A lot of it depends on what is going on between the ears.

"I've always been interested in young players. I think it's the fact I've played for managers who took an interest in young players, Brian Clough in particular, when I first came over from Ireland.

"If one or two of these young lads can do well in the next few weeks when they are training with the first team, I wouldn't blink about putting them into the team. It gives a good example for the other young players to follow, they have to have that belief that, if they do well enough, they will progress into the first team. We've got a few who could."
