Sunderland boss Paolo di Canio admits Steven Fletcher is already pushing for a first team return.

Fletcher required surgery after suffering ligament damage on international duty in March but has fully recovered.

Di Canio said: "You can see his enthusiasm and desire but we have to be sensible and intelligent.

"If it was up to him he would play now but to accelerate him would be stupid, because he will be very important to us."
