Sunderland boss Chris Coleman has not dropped his pursuit of Liverpool winger Ben Woodburn.
The Daily Star says Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has blocked the move following the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for £142million and with no replacement having arrived.
The Anfield club have also taken into account the loss through injury of another of their promising attacking talents – Rhian Brewster, 17.
Klopp puts the England Under-18s World Cup-winning striker in a similar category to Woodburn, 18.
But Coleman will try again to capture Woodburn if Liverpool bring in forward signings before the end of January.
