Sunderland boss Steve Bruce won't give up on Wigan Athletic midfielder Lee Cattermole.

The Mirror says Bruce tabled a £5 million bid on Friday to the annoyance of his former employers and was given a 'hands off' message by his replacement Roberto Martinez.

However, Bruce is confident the former Middlesbrough player wants to join him in the north-east.
