Sunderland boss Steve Bruce will not pay over the odds to replace Darren Bent.
Bruce will continue his striker search, but insists he will not be held to ransom.
He said: "What happens is that, when people think you have a sackload of money, they try to take it off you as quickly as they can.
"We will try to add to the squad, but at the moment certain chief executives and managers are trying to take our pants down.
"If there is a deal to be done, we will do it, but I will not be rushed into anything.
"With the points tally we have and the season we are having, we do not have to do anything rash."
