Sunderland remain keen on Tottenham fullback Alan Hutton.
The Black Cats are this week wrapping up the signing of Estudiantes right-back Marcos Angeleri.
However, the Sunderland Echo says Angeleri's signing would not necessarily end Sunderland's interest in Hutton.
In an ideal world, manager Steve Bruce would want both and look to off-load Phil Bardsley in the summer transfer window. That would give him two right-backs that he would have every confidence in.
But Sunderland are determined not to pay over the odds for a player who was ridiculously over-priced when former Spurs boss Juande Ramos paid Glasgow Rangers £9m for his services.
The Black Cats would be prepared to pay around £4m for the Scottish international, but Spurs are believed to want double that.
