Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is pushing for a deal with David Vaughan.
The Mirror says Bruce will have talks with Blackpool's Wales international Vaughan about joining on a free transfer next week.
Vaughan wants to stay in the top flight despite being offered a decent deal by the relegated Seasiders - and Bruce has him on his short-list of targets.
The experienced play-maker has had other offers, but Sunderland are the biggest club and he looks set to join if he is convinced that he will be in the plans for a starting place in Bruce's team.
