Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is planning a move for Wigan Athletic midfielder Lee Cattermole.
The Sun says Bruce has yet to splash any of the £40m warchest handed to him by US billionaire owner Ellis Short.
But he is now back at work and ready to test former club Wigan's resolve over Cattermole's availability.
