Sunderland boss Steve Bruce will hand Craig Gordon his comeback game against Norwich City in the Carling Cup tomorrow night.
Gordon has only trained fully for a week, but a good show could mean he gets the No1 jersey back. Bruce has yet to see him play in a competitive match.
Bruce said: "Gordon will play on Monday. I've not seen him competitively yet and he's only trained for a couple of days. But I'll make that decision over the next couple of weeks."
Gordon, whose absence has hit Scotland's World Cup hopes, added: "I'm getting there on the injury front. The knee feels fine, but when I'm getting back into training my body's doing a lot of work that it's not used to doing, as it's been over three months since I trained.
"It's taking a little bit of time to get used to those rigours and getting used to putting the muscles through the rigours of what they need to do every day."
