Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is confident David Meyler will bounce back from his knee operation.

The young Irishman is now recovering from major knee surgery.

Bruce said: "David didn't make an impact until the New Year in the first team but people forget he picked up a serious ankle injury in Portugal and then another one just as he was on the verge of returning.

"David is injured right now but he's a tough lad and a determined character and I'm sure he'll be back."
