Sunderland boss Steve Bruce says he chose David Beckham ahead of Peter Crouch for the England man-of-the-match award because the Tottenham striker turned him down in the summer!
LA Galaxy midfielder Beckham was handed the award by Bruce after just thirty minutes as a substitute and the Black Cats manager joked: "Crouchy? That's why I didn't give him man of the match!
"He turned me down in the summer - that's why I didn't give it to him."
