Sunderland boss Steve Bruce was delighted with Stephane Sessegnon's performance in victory over Wigan Athletic.
The trickster, who joined Sunderland from Paris Saint-Germain in January, kept his nerve to net a key penalty and followed up by laying on a goal for Jordan Henderson.
"Stephane is a terrific little player," Bruce, who saw his side move back up to 10th in the Barclays Premier League with victory, told safc.com.
"It's been difficult for him and we'd love to be just introducing him now, but unfortunately we haven't been able to do that.
"You could see his ability in abundance today and he showed a lot of bottle to step up and take the penalty."
