Sunderland boss Bruce: Fergie was right, Chelsea defender Luiz should have gone

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce sympathises with Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson over Martin Atkinson's performance in defeat at Chelsea.

Bruce says David Luiz should have been sent off in the play that led to Chelsea's matchwinning spotkick being awarded.

He told talkSPORT: "It's very difficult, it was a fantastic spectacle the other night, played at such a pace, but you do have to question when they do keep getting big decisions wrong and major decisions wrong that can win titles.

"Managers, players and coaches are going to go and question them, if they're going to make big mistakes like they are doing at the moment then it becomes very, very difficult.

"We see the challenge from David Luiz, who had a fantastic game, but should he have been on the pitch for the last 20 minutes? It's a real, real difficult one.

"We all know that it is a very, very difficult job however they've got to start being more accountable, a bit like ourselves."
