With Fraizer Campbell on the verge of full fitness after 16 months out with knee trouble and Connor Wickham expected to be available for the hectic festive programme, the team will have the firepower it has lacked in recent weeks.

“Having those two back will give the whole club a lift,” he said.

“Fraizer’s come through another week of ­training and reminded us all what a very good player he is.

“His infectious enthusiasm around the place is a joy to watch and if he can get back to playing the way he was before his injury, it will be a massive boost.”
