Sunderland boss Bruce endures frustrating deadline day

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce endured a frustrating transfer deadline day.

The Sun says Wigan stood firm on £5million target Maynor Figueroa as former Latics chief Bruce attempted a second summer raid on his old club following the £6m capture of midfielder Lee Cattermole.

Bruce also missed out on Egyptian international Ahmed Al Muhammadi after the highly-rated wing-back's club Enppi turned down a season-long loan move.

The Sunderland manager tried to snap up former West Ham defender Lucas Neill as well - but was beaten by the clock.
