Sunderland boss Bruce determined to keep Liverpool target Cattermole

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is determined to keep hold of midfielder Lee Cattermole.

The 22-year-old has been the subject of speculation since the start of the year, with Liverpool consistently touted as possible suitors.

Cattermole has seen his star rise under Bruce after leaving Middlesbrough for Wigan in 2008, following his manager to the Stadium of Light in 2009 and delivering a string of impressive performances.

With new Reds boss Roy Hodgson currently overseeing some transition in the squad, Cattermole has been seen as a successor to Javier Mascherano should he leave Anfield.

Bruce however has already lost Cattermole's midfield partner Lorik Cana after a shock exit to Galatasaray for £5million, and insisted that he is not about to lose another one of his key players.

He said: "I don't know anything about that, and I have absolutely no intention of letting Lee leave this club - none whatsoever."
