Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is pushing to improve their international scouting.
The Sunday Sun says Bruce has been given virtually a free rein to overhaul the coaching, scouting and medical staff at the Stadium of Light.
However, it was the area of recruitment which was a concern when the club carried out a debrief at the end of last season.
Bruce wants to beef up Sunderland's European and international scouting network after his last few South American buys turned out to be a disappointment.
