Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is spreading his net wide in his bid to boost their attacking options.
The Journal says they remain interested in Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck despite manager Steve Bruce's belief that he has "no chance" of landing him.
Other targets include DJ Campbell (Birmingham City), Chris Brunt (West Bromwich Albion)) and Peter Crouch (Tottenham).
Meanwhile, Sunderland have been priced out of a move for Roger Johnson after Birmingham quoted an astronomical £12million for their highly-regarded centre-back.
