Sunderland boss Steve Bruce blanked yesterday's post-match media conference after victory over Wigan Athletic.
The Sunday Mirror says Bruce had the last laugh on his critics as Sunderland delivered the vital win that ensures they'll be in the Premier League last season.
The Black Cats boss, hammered by some critics in recent days for their slide towards the relegation trap door, refused to attend the post-match press conference.
But Bruce had been vindicated by two-goal Jordan Henderson. The gifted young midfielder had been a target for crowd abuse and his manager had withdrawn him from the first team to ensure his self-belief was not terminally shattered by Sunderland's spring-time woes.
Henderson came good with two precious goals as Sunderland swept struggling Wigan aside.
