Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has confirmed he wants to buy a new goalkeeper.
Bruce is pleased with the form of new arrival Simon Mignolet.
He told the Sunday Sun: "Simon was terrific but the problem I have got is that Craig Gordon is out for at least another six to eight weeks, Marton Fulop is on the cusp of joining Ipswich - talks are going on chairman-to-chairman, it looks like it will go through and I'm not going to stop that one - and Trevor Carson got injured on Friday morning.
"It leaves you taking a gamble, and in the Premier League I'm not really one for gambling.
"To be fair to David James, geographically Bristol was a big draw for him. He wanted to be closer to home.
"Once that became evident, there was no decision to be made. Exeter to Sunderland is a long way! We'll look and it and I'll see how Trevor is tomorrow. But bringing in another goalkeeper is a possibility."
