Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has handed a scouting role to former Burnley boss Stan Ternent, also an ex-assistant manager at Chelsea.

The Stadium of Light manager clearly rates Ternent's judgment, as he also worked for him when Bruce was in charge at Birmingham City and at Wigan Athletic.

For the vastly-experienced Ternent, it's a labour of love. That's because Stan is a Sunderland fan to his core.

Ternent, 63, managed both Burnley (2000) and Bury (1997) to promotions to the old First Division.
