Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat has told Santiago Vergini he must move on.
Vergini signed permanently for Sunderland on July 1 courtesy of a clause in his previous deal.
Vergini's representatives were at the Academy of Light for a meeting yesterday and they left to start to the search for a new club for their client.
“It's a new season and I have to be straight and honest with people," said Advocaat to the Evening Chronicle.
“I don't want to go on with him, with all respect.
“I'm sorry for Santi, but he has to go and find another club.
“It was the same with the right-back [Anthony Reveillere, who was told at the end of the season he would be released]."
