Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is set to go South American to boost his defence.
The Daily Star Sunday says they have been offered the chance to snap up Argentinian defender Santiago Gentiletti.
Bolton Wanderers - who were linked with a move for Gentiletti in January - and Wigan Athletic are also chasing the Argentinos Juniors centre-back, 26, who is available on a free and has an Italian passport.
But Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has had his fingers burned with the signing of another Argie, right-back Marcos Angeleri, 28, who has been a flop since his £1.5million move from Estudiantes last year.
