Sunderland up bid for Reading's Hunt

Sunderland have reportedly made a third and improved bid of £4.5 million for Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt.

Roy Keane has led a sustained courtship of the Republic of Ireland international since the start of January and had already seen offers of £2.5m and £3m turned down by The Royals.

Manager Steve Coppell, director of football Nicky Hammond and chairman John Madejski have all publicly stated that the club have no desire whatsoever to let Hunt go and Reading are even in negotiations with the player regarding a pay rise and contract extension at present.

However, news of a third bid from Sunderland will test Reading's resolve once more as they look to hold onto a player who has made 23 appearances for the club this season, scoring seven goals from a wide position.
