Sunderland intend to offer £2 million for Brighton midfielder Liam Bridcutt next week.
The Telegraph says Gus Poyet is ready to make a raid on former club Brighton with a £2 million bid for Bridcutt.
Poyet, the Sunderland manager, will table an offer for the midfielder when the transfer window opens next week as he prepares to shake up his squad.
Bridcutt, 24, was signed by Poyet from Chelsea in 2010 and has established a reputation as one of the most highly-rated playmakers outside the Premier League.
