Sunderland have made an improved bid for Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

The Evening Chronicle says Bolton are reported to want £6m, but that seems extremely ambitious for a player who has rejected a new four-year deal and will be a free agent next summer.

Sunderland tabled a £2m offer earlier this month, but are understood to have increased it to £2.5m, although it may take more than £3m to prise Jaaskelainen out of the Reebok Stadium.
