Sunderland are battling to get their deal for Le Havre fullback Benjamin Mendy over the line.
The Evening Chronicle says Sunderland are favourites to sign Mendy, having agreed a fee with Le Havre - although they may yet have to fend off late interest from French clubs Lyon and Marseille.
Reports in France have put the price for highly-rated teenager Mendy at anywhere between £2.5m and £4.25m.
