Sunderland attempt to trump Liverpool for Wickham

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has made a move for Ipswich Town superkid Connor Wickham.

The Daily Express says Wickham remains in Liverpool's sights even though Sunderland tried to spark interest last night.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce asked about Ipswich striker Wickham, with a fee of £9million plus additional payments mooted, in a bid to out-manoeuvre Liverpool. So the onus is now on Anfield to increase an offer of about £7m .

Director of football, Damien Comolli, was considering his next move last night.
