Sunderland attacker Stephane Sessegnon was proud of his derby goal in victory at Newcastle United.
Sessegnon was left in tears 13 months ago after being sent off for catching Cheick Tiote in the face with a stray arm as the sides fought out a 1-1 draw.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "I experienced the agony of this fixture when I got the red card last season.
"I learned from that and how to control myself in that atmosphere.
"It was important we kept our composure and everyone finished the game very strongly.
"It was a great day for us."
