Sunderland boss Gus Poyet are chasing Valencia midfielder Ever Banega.
The Daily Mail says it is understood that the Black Cats have made an enquiry over the 25-year-old, who has 24 senior caps for his country.
Banega has also been linked with Manchester United this month - before their deal for Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata.
