Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is already keen to sign Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner.
The People says Bruce is trying to make Bendtner's loan deal from Arsenal permanent.
The Gunners will want £9m for the Dane, 23, in the summer.
But Bruce, who managed Bendtner on loan at Birmingham City, has warned his board that figure could rise if he shines this term.
