Sunderland agree to compete in South Korea's Peace Cup

Sunderland will take part in the Peace Cup in South Korea this summer.

The Black Cats confirmed they have accepted an invitation to join K-League side Seongnam and Bundesliga outfit Hamburg in the competition.

A delegation from the club, which signed striker Ji Dong-won from Chunnam Dragons during the summer, visited the country last year as part of its attempts to exploit the global market.

Chief executive Margaret Byrne said: "Sunderland is immensely proud to be invited to participate in the Peace Cup.

"This tournament has a proud history involving many of the world's top clubs, and for Sunderland to be considered amongst them is a huge honour for us.

"The arrival of Ji Dong-won at Sunderland has seen a truly warm partnership begin to grow between our football club and the Korean people.

"They, like us, share a genuine passion for football and we are delighted to be sharing the Sunderland vision with them."
