The defender returned to China when PSV Eindhoven failed to take up an option on a three-year permanent deal in May, but sources at Shanghai Shenhua said the club is close to agreeing a deal to send Sun back to the Netherlands, says the Shanghai Daily.

Sun is keen on the move, believing that staying in China will lead to a "lack of motivation and stop me making progress", the paper quoted him as saying.
