‘Successor to Kluivert’, ‘the new Zlatan’: Why Chelsea, Man Utd need to go after Ajax ‘ice rabbit’ Dolberg…

Kasper Dolberg is on of the hottest names in European football right now.

The 19-year-old Danish striker is enjoying a scintillating start to his debut season with Dutch powerhouse Ajax and subsequently is suddenly a target for a number of Europe's biggest clubs, including Premier League pair Manchester United and Chelsea.

The baby-faced forward already has eight goals in 20 outings for Ajax in all competitions this campaign, including the opener in last week's Europa League win over Celta Vigo, which a number of scouts were on hand to witness.

The youngster was spotted by John Steen Olsen, the same scout who drew Ajax's attention to such players as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Jesper Gronkjaer, Christian Eriksen and Viktor Fischer, so there is absolutely no doubting that the kid has ability.

Dutch source Hans Roozekrans tells Tribalfootball.com that Dolberg, who joined Ajax's U19 side from Danish club Silkeborg IF in the summer of 2015, already has the football world at his nimble and assured feet.

“What a talent!," Roozekrans beamed of the youngster who was called up to the Denmark senior squad for upcoming matches against Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic.

Ajax has been looking for the successor to Patrick Kluivert and they've probably finally got him!!

“Spanish and some other media are already calling him the 'new Zlatan'.

“He really is impressive this season. He started at 18 years old (turned 19 in October) and immediately made an impact.

“The kid is strong, focused, quick, can keep a ball at his feet and is lethal in front of goal. He's quite a shy guy, but really determined.

“In Dutch we call him an 'ijskonijn', which sort of translates to 'ice rabbit'."

Regarding Dolberg's role under Peter Bosz at Ajax, Roozekrans says it has not exactly panned out as everybody expected in terms of on-field positioning, but it has indeed worked for the Eredivisie giants thus far.

Ajax was looking for replacement of Arek Milik, who left for Napoli, and hired Bertrand Traore from Chelsea for the striker position, but Dolberg has claimed that spot with Traore now playing as right winger," he added.

After the 3-2 victory over Celta in Europe, teammate Lasse Schone said these words of the brilliant boy: "It's all pretty fast.

“He has an attitude as if it does not interest him so much.

“On the first workout you saw that he can play football like no other."

While manager Bosz was also full of praise for the talented teen who has taken the Amsterdam Arena by storm in the early stages of the campaign.

"For a striker of Ajax they have a certain image," Bosz said.

“Dolberg has many features of such a player. He plays in the most difficult position in our team. But I do not know where this will end."

While there is still plenty of water to pass under the bridge before Dolberg proves he has what it takes to make the next step, the Ajax supporters are poised for a great season of viewing pleasure as they watch one of the most talented and bright young players in Europe go about his business in their bid for a 34th Dutch title.
