Suarez revels in Liverpool captaincy - Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers was delighted to see the display put on by Luis Suarez in Liverpool's 5-0 hammering of Tottenham on Sunday.

The Uruguayan striker was handed the captain's armband for the first time in the absence of Steven Gerrard and was able to score a double and provide an assists in the emphatic victory.

Manager Rodgers felt it was a quality performance from Suarez who revelled despite the extra responsibility placed on him.

"This is a guy who has captained one of the most iconic clubs in European football in Ajax, so it's nothing new to him," Rodgers said.

"I wanted to have someone who could represent me and the club in that tunnel, before even stepping on the pitch.

"When Luis Suarez has the armband on ready to go out, everyone knows this is a team ready to fight.

"He was great in the changing room, I told him a few days back I wanted him to lead this club and that it was an honour for him.

"I think he enjoyed it and today you've seen his performance level."
