Luis Suarez defended Lionel Messi after he missed a penalty in Barcelona's 2-1 win at Manchester City in the first-leg of their Champions League clash.

Joe Hart saved Messi's injury-time spotkick.

"Leo knows how to deal with these situations," Suarez, who struck twice, said.

"The important thing is that we had a spectacular first half in every sense. We read the game to perfection and knew how to make the most of the spaces they left open."
