Shinji Okazaki summed up Japan's World Cup qualifying defeat to Jordan as a wasted opportunity.
The Blue Samurai were surprisingly beaten 2-1 by the Jordanians in Amman and although there was controversy involving Yasuhito Endo's second-half penalty and a laser beam pointed from the stands, Stuttgart forward Okazaki felt his side simply miss their chances.
"We didn't take our chances," said Okazaki.
"We were doing well and my mistake led to us conceding the first goal. You are not going to win away unless you take your chances but it is not over yet and we just have to try and regroup for the next match."
Japan fell behind when Khalil Bani Attiah edged Jordan in front on the stroke of half-time before Ahmed Hayel doubled the advantage just after the hour-mark. Manchester United's Shinji Kagawa gave Japan some hope with a reply 20 minutes from time but it was not enough as Jordan moved up to second on the Group B table, six points behind the Japanese.
