Newcastle United U18 coach Kevin Richardson was proud of his players in their FA Youth Cup defeat to Chelsea.
An excellent crowd of 11,664 roared on Newcastle's youngsters as they battled hard against the FA Youth Cup holders only to go down 3-0 after extra-time.
Richardson told the Evening Chronicle: "I think all of the players deserve a hell of a lot of credit for their effort individually and collectively.
"I thought it was a fantastic effort. We had a chance right at the end of 90 minutes and could have won it 1-0.
"You know what this game is like though.
"It went to 3-0 and it was a shame because I didn't think it was a 3-0 game."
