Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera WANTS to join Atletico Madrid, it has been revealed.

AS says Herrera is in advanced talks over a pre-contract, with his United deal to expire in June.

The midfielder has been assured by Atletico he is a priority for coach Diego Simeone - and he is eager to see the move happen.

The stumbling block, however, is United and manager Jose Mourinho.

United have the option to extend Herrera's deal a further 12 months and could do so just to prevent him from leaving on a free next summer.
