Everton defender Alan Stubbs took charge of the club's reserve-team for Wednesday night's 5-1 victory over Wigan Athletic.
The Blues romped to a win over Wigan at Robin Park, with the goals spread between James Vaughan, Lukas Jutkiewicz, Andy van der Meyde, Lukas Jutkiewicz and Jack Rodwell.
"But I have come along and Taff (Andy Holden) has been great with me. He stepped into the background and let me do it all. It was a little bit nerve-racking but I think I have enough respect from the lads to know what it is all about.
"I have been following Taff for a couple of months now but this is the first time I have done it by myself - it was a good start but I am sure it won't always be like that!"
Stubbs also revealed he had to have a word with Vaughan to ensure the striker's full-blooded approach did not lead to another unwelcome spell on the sidelines, having only recently returned from a short-term thigh strain.
Stubbs added: "I had to say to Vaughany during the game just to calm down a little bit because first and foremost it was just a fitness exercise for him.
"Secondly, it was about getting him through the game unscathed. We managed to do that and he has come through it but trying to stop him lunging into tackles is another thing!"
