Alan Stubbs says Everton are banking on James McFadden translating his Scotland form to the Premiership stage.
"I think he caught the keeper by surprise because he turned and hit it so early but it was a great strike."
Having been so valuable for Scotland during the Euro 2008 campaign, Stubbs admits it is hard to explain why he has not become a regular in the Everton line-up.
He added: "It is difficult to say why it is with Faddy. I think he has become a more consistent player since he came here and it is just a matter of him transferring that brilliance we see from him into a more all-round game. I am sure he will do that. We see him in training and on his day he is a real, real handful but I think he would be the first to say he hasn't produced that consistently in games but he will do - I have no doubt about that.
"He is just trying to find a balance in his game where he can bring all his talents through."
