Kevin Strootman admits talking to Fulham goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg about moving to AS Roma.

Stekelenburg left Roma last month.

"The step up to Serie A from the Dutch League is very exciting. I spoke to Maarten over the phone and he told me Roma are a huge club with very passionate fans. There is a lot of pressure, but I think that helps players to do even better.

"In Holland we are not accustomed to hundreds of fans waiting for you at the airport. I really didn't expect such a warm welcome. I can promise the fans I'll give 100 per cent for this club, though I prefer to do my talking on the pitch."
